    Discussion

Nicholas is forecast to become a strong tropical storm before it makes landfall this evening along the middle Texas coast. However, it is the flooding rainfall that is the greatest threat.

Wind gusts to tropical storm force are expected from Nicholas. Coastal areas could see gusts over 50 mph. These winds would arrive later tonight into the overnight hours. Power outages are likely.

    Rain

Persistent heavy rains should begin spreading into the area within the next few hours and last into the early morning tomorrow. General accumulations of 8 to 14 inches are likely, though isolated areas are expected to receive up to 20 inches of rain. Widespread major street flooding is likely to result in major travel delays. Some areas of flood damage are also likely.

    Storm Surge

Tidal surges of 2 to 4 feet are expected later tonight. This will result in coastal flooding.

If you're on the west or north side it doesn't look like much. The eye may go right through Houston but the heaviest rain will be south and east.

Yeah, seems like Montgomery County isn’t going to get much of anything.

It's moving a bit more east along the coast. Much more of that movement and central Houston could be mostly dry. Freeport and Galveston could get hit harder than expected.

Surprised the track is still north to Houston after the prolonged east jog
