    Houston is far more integrated that other parts of the country. Go spend some time in Chicago and you will see segregation.

    Yes there are areas where immigrants or minorities go for housing, but there is a lot more cross over than in the past.

    Many of the older inhabitants own their properties out right and probably just struggle with the higher property taxes and insurance costs. Despite the some gentrification, these people are generational inhabitants with some deep roots in the neighborhoods since their families migrated from the deep south, such as Mississippi, in the 1940s or earlier. Watch movies such as "Devil in a Blue Dress" to see what these neighborhoods looked like upon their early settlements when decent jobs were plentiful.
