Given that many modern nation chooses to work on the root cause - the virus itself, they are looking poise for a better economic rebound with less death and cases. So there is at least a 3rd choice - lower death, cases, and a less severe recession. Who wouldn’t go for that choice?
Canada has more isolated provinces than the US which would help them immensely. The rest of your post I disagree with as per my previous arguments.
fair enough on Canada. Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, some EU countries are very dense and they have it under control.
If the US case load is in decline, does that not also mean it is under control? I would like to see these EU countries' case load curves for myself first before assuming it.
No! Jesus. It means people have changed their behavior and society is not acting normal. That's why the virus is slowing down. There is no cure/vaccination = not under control.
Again...i made a comment specific to you using Florida as an example telling you why cases in Florida went down last week.
That means it’s declining but not under control IMO. One possible definition of under control is you can relax restrictions and you don’t expect major spikes. With 50k cases per day, you will get spikes, probably major depending on how much you relax the restriction. The link I provided earlier has very good easy to visualize data on all sort of stats including case load over time per country.
Do other nations have cures or vaccines? If not, then by your logic noone has covid-19 under control.
I would wager the caseload was well under 50k back in June which was why we decided to try a reopening.
Once again I see people trying to torture the data. It's really very simple. Countries that have done more to combat the virus have seen case loads and death totals less than countries that didn't.
It makes sense to just randomly try various things during a pandemic. Afterall, people like Jared with years of experience as a slumlord know much better than disease experts.
That pretty much says it all. But entitled folks don't want to put in the work and effort to get this under control. They rationalize it by cherry-picking data, errors, and the off-target freedom cry.
Actually, that kind of makes it worse since their population centers are densely populated. But still more under control than the United States
It peaked at around 30k and then was hovering around 20k cases per day. Remember that the states that chooses to open up early did NOT met the cdc criteria for opening up. It was a reckless gamble.
For a comparison, Ontario would be the fifth largest state by population if it were in the US. Ontario has reported less than 100 covid-19 cases per day for the last week. Yesterday, Ontario reported 79 cases while performing 26000 tests (.03% positive rate). The maritime provinces are reporting 0 cases a day now. They've basically eliminated Covid-19 there. Alberta is really the only place that is having problems and guess what Alberta happens to be the only province with a governing party that behaves like the GOP. And really, Alberta looks really good compared to any state in the US.
