Conservatives harass and threaten public health employees

A public health official in Ozaukee and Washington counties said she is scared for her employees' safety, as they have been harassed online and in person by those critical of the department's efforts to track and manage the coronavirus pandemic.

Kirsten Johnson, the director of the Washington Ozaukee Public Health Department, said her employees have been yelled at, cursed at, and, on two occasions, followed while they were driving a health department vehicle in West Bend.

The health department's logo has since been removed from the vehicles.

Health department employees' names and photos have been deleted from the health department website, and Johnson has asked the state Department of Health Services to remove her name from the agency website.
