I have a cousin that is a quadriplegic that has been diagnosed with COVID. He most likely got it from one of his in home care givers. He's in the VA in San Antonio and they are starting him on this today.
He is pretty sick, but not on oxygen yet. "Bad flu" is the description, but it has been getting a little bit worse each day (he's 6 days in to having symptoms). They are immediately starting the drug because there is some indication that it'll work better the earlier you get it, despite not being proven out in studies yet. His Doctor had a couple patients in the study that led to the approval for the drug said they've been itching to start it earlier...like the day someone checks into the hospital and tests positive, they just don't have enough yet to do that and they are saving it for the highest risk people.
Interesting if this turns out to be true, as MMR is already known to be safe (unless you are in the anti-vaccination camp): https://www.globenewswire.com/news-...COVID-19-According-to-World-Organization.html https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/11446949/mmr-vaccine-could-protect-coronavirus-bcg-trials/ Could explain why young children are almost completely unaffected by this pandemic.
Man, I go out to a home Depot and Target for the first time in a month and maybe 10% of the people are wearing masks. Dafuq?
I need to get some stuff from Home Despot, but damn if I'm going into one. lol. I'll probably just order online and do curbside pickup. I think they do that. I did curbside pickup of some groceries at Walmart last week and about 50% of the people I saw wandering around in the parking lot did have masks on.
Do we even KNOW what kind of a difference wearing a mask makes? There are experts that disagree, what are we to expect from people when that is happening?
I should know the results of the antibody test tomorrow. The price for Texas residents was dropped to $98. They gave me a refund to match. https://www.healthlabs.com/covid-19-antibody-test
I was talking to a friend in NYC the other day who is just getting over COVID-19. He didn't lose his sense of smell but did say it was an awful experience. He also said he was dealing with symptoms for more than a month..
I mean, it can't be worse than going out with no mask on, right? I feel like any sort of facial covering (even if it's the cheapest and flimsiest) > none.
75% of the people I talk to STILL think the face mask is to protect themselves. Its not, its to protect everyone else.
Yeah, it's always been said it would take a while for them to ramp up production. For whatever reason, it's not an easy drug to make (maybe someone else can explain that part). When the news was released a while back, it was pretty much known this wasn't going to be a magic bullet, but it would be something more of a step towards that bullet that gives us more time, hopefully. And yeah, I believe the data suggested that the earlier you get to using it, the better the chances. I pray it does work in most cases.
