Does anyone really care if china discovers a vaccine first ?

Is it such a national disgrace to us that a country with the biggest population on earth can direct its resources to and solve a problem quickly ?

Does the US feel ashamed when French or British scientists beat us to something ?

Some countries are beating everyone in terms of governmental response by having very low or no cases by early preventative measures.

This one element of science and research doesn't make them a world leader in everything

I'm more more concerned about the quantum computing race.

yeah he didn't do it correctly, but what sucks is the amount of people that think he did it wrong, is because the straps are supposed to go around the ears. They're not

Sadly it confirmed the suspicion that groups of people are **** heads. Anyone that says “X wouldn’t happen now” hasn’t lived long enough.

The CCP doesn’t just want to control their own citizens, their actions in Africa confirm that they want to control people period.

Second, if the CCP finds a vaccine they will not be hailed as saviors. They already are viewed as the cause of the viral spread and their actions attempting to hide the virus impact and duration has only solidified the international reputation they have as liars.

I try to not get political in here because it isn't supposed to be.

The point was the Party wasn't as competent as Malakas made them look.

They weren't likely having a biotechnical breakthrough in either making a strong virus or at least trying to experiment on it and getting it leaked.

    I do not believe it.

Two Fridays go, the USA had ~500K CV cases.

Last Friday, the USA had ~700K CV cases.

200K new cases over the last week.

Is this what flattening/peak looks like?

And how the f*k do 200K people get infected when most of us are sheltering in place?

Because our testing strategy/capacity is terrible and we're basically testing hospital candidates now who got infected weeks ago

It really is the dumbest thing to not make it mandatory to have a face covering. Locally, state wide or nationally. Only smart state has been California- made the huge decision to order the stay at home order early and make it mandatory to have face covering. Kudos to that Governor.

Well I'm guessing a lot of it is likely backlog. As I've mentioned before my doctor friend took 2 weeks to get his test back. My gf up in Toronto is still waiting on her 2nd test and it's been nearly 2 weeks up there. The curve flattening is mainly our testing capacity hitting limits not actually percentages of tests positive dropping. Our tests per day have roughly been flat over the past 2 weeks and the percentage of tests positive has been basically flat as well. If I'm betting this virus is FAAAAR more widespread than we know. If it is much more widespread then people are still infecting each other without it being known. Additionally we have to remember this virus has an incubation period up to 2 weeks.

Lastly, 130k of those 200k new positives are coming from the hot spot in the northeast (PA, MA, NY, CT, NJ)

All of that said if you want to see what curve flattening looks like it would be what is happening in NY right now. A week ago positive test rate was 43% and today it is at 30.4%.

Don't worry, you will see a spike up in the US when Trump forces states to re-open.
