Anyone endorsed by Oliver Luck and Andrew Luck, is doomed. But I wish him well. They Panthers have the QB who was cut by the Coogs no less, and an XFL er. That ain't a model for success.
That's just how professional football in Houston goes. Just as we think we got something special going...it comes crashing down.
Kind of sad, it did seem like it had viability and even some XFL guys were going to get shots in the NFL which would have made it a good developmental pipeline if those guys go on to have decent careers in the NFL.
I am very sad about this. I went to two of the home games, and they were incredibly fun. Great environment and we had an awesome following developing. I hope this is not the end. SCREW COVID-19.
They did everything right. The look, the broadcast, financial backing, they checked every box an upstart league could hope to check. You can be snarky about it being a foolish endeavor to try, but you can't criticize the effort. It was gonna be a major uphill battle to begin with. To get blasted with the first true pandemic in a century is some pretty s**t luck.
Walker/Phillips goes down as the most underrated duo in Houston pro sports history. Houston cult heroes.
XFL files for bankruptcy The XFL has filed for bankruptcy just three days after suspending operations and laying off nearly its entire staff. The Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing listed both assets and liabilities in the range of $10 million to $50 million. The XFL issued the following statement:. "The XFL quickly captured the hearts and imaginations of millions of people who love football. Unfortunately, as a new enterprise, we were not insulated from the harsh economic impacts and uncertainties caused by the COVID-19 crisis. Accordingly, we have filed a voluntary petition for relief under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. This is a heartbreaking time for many, including our passionate fans, players and staff, and we are thankful to them, our television partners, and the many Americans who rallied to the XFL for the love of football." The XFL is owned by WWE CEO and president Vince McMahon and Alpha Entertainment. The filing showed that the football league was owned in part by the WWE with 23.5% of Class B stock. Coach Bob Stoops and Marc Trestman are among the top eight creditors listed. Stoops had the third-largest unsecured claim with $1,083,333.33 shown.
That sucks. I didn't think it would be a worthwhile product but they proved me wrong. What shitty timing.
I would give up the Texans this year to have continued this ride. I was row one endzone and got on tv all the time
I think it was watchable short term, but I don't think it would have lasted. There was no reason to root for or against anyone. They needed to manufacture some tension which they never really did. So likely just a slow death.
I can see both sides of the argument. It's a contract, but ultimately, if you only do one year of work you can't really expect to get paid for eight in a pandemic.
