People will pay good money to see a player like Carmelo because Melo is highly skilled. Blazers and Carmelo struggling. The struggles prove why they needed the extra help in signing Carmelo. Blazers organization and terry sotts were smart in making the right decision.
Points per 100 with Melo on the floor: 101 scored 118 given up. Melo +/- Offense -2.0 Defence -1.8 Value over replacement player -0.6 (better when he sits) Offensive win shares 0. (None. Wow. He at least had 0.1 as a Rocket) Bottom line: he stinks. But it is cool for a tanking team to give their fans an old favourite to cheer for!!
Portland has one of the worse defenses in the league. Signing Melo made no sense at all. The need to put 3 and D guys around CJ and Lilliard.
I always laugh at comments like these, no idea why they always pop up in clutch fans. Imagine being so devoted to calling a player a scrub you eagerly jump into a thread after bad games so you can gloat about how badly he sucks and how smart you are!! So different than the dick-riders, so brave! Reminds me of how bad this sub got during the Lin phase. LOF's were horrible, but LOH that let other fans perceptions of players dominate their emotions were often-times worse with how personally they seemed to take stuff. Like the highlight of their week is Lin having an inefficient night.
Because it was a pretty nice move? I don't understand why there is so much outrage in this thread about Carmelo having supporters. He's a Hall of Famer... I don't think anybody is pretending he is some great player (not really surprising that he is a net-negative by advanced metrics), people just like seeing the occasional shades of young Melo in a season where nobody even expected him to be on a roster. He is playing better than expectations, even if he's still not very good. Stop taking everything so seriously and just enjoy the game of basketball.
Giving attention, positive and negative, to bad NBA players is a favorite past time around here. He's a bad player, and has no place on a team trying to win. I really wouldn't have any ill will towards him if he, players and the media hadn't gone out of their way to portray him as a victim last season. For a player with "so much to offer" people weren't pounding on our door when we were trying to give him away.
His own banana boat mates didnt want him on their team. Not like he wasn't available and waiting lulz
There is a poster in THIS thread who still acts like he’s a great player. and no he's not playing better than expectations. he's playing about as bad as i expected. he's still as bad as he was on the thunder. the media just dickrides and overrates when he has that one flash where he doesn't look awful and it's pitiful. i'm just enjoying being right and throwing it people's faces when they tried to act like the rockets did him dirty.
Lol melo ain’t helping the rockets. Rockets got enough one dimensional shooters who aren’t even efficient. Rockets seriously lack a guy who can do 2 things well besides their stars. It’s Russ, harden and a bunch of specialists who would be average role players/bench rotation guys on any other championship contender.
