The truly saddening part is we jettisoned the .500 TS% player who shot wayyyyyy too much, then brought in the .500TS% player who shoots it even MORE!
Really? I thought it was Ariza for 15mill? No thanks Which was probably the right call... Clearly Melo for the minimum was as astute a signing as Thabo for the minimum. Nah. It was worse!!
it was only the right call to not pay ariza if you're worried about LTS. other than that so what? The Rockets still haven't replaced the void he left. If you later decided Ariza wasn't worth it, he was a 1 year expiring to get someone else. He got dumped for Oubre, let that sink in
The Suns ended up with Kelly Oubre for Ariza because the Suns were willing to take on a large expiring salary. Could have been us, but Tilman...
they ended up with Oubre because other teams do other teams favors all the time... no team will do rockets any favor @YOLO @DreamShook
Oubre or otherwise, the point is it wasn't Ariza (or whatever he flip for) for $15M vs spending that money elsewhere. It was Ariza for $15 vs Tilman having more money in his bank accounts. The opportunity cost was Tilman's finances, not any other rotation player. Same thing happened with the Ryno-Knight-Shump slot where the Rockets gave away picks along the way just to let the slot expire. I've come to terms with the cheap ownership. So be it. This is the team and the window is open for a few more years.
It would have been tough for harden to win player of the week anyway not playing his first game until Wednesday.

But remember! If we had signed Ariza and paid the luxury tax we'd be...oh my god...in danger of the REPEATER TAX! Thank God we've managed to avoid the tax every year so that horrible REPEATER TAX clock hasn't started! Never forget that they tried to spin the argument that we'd be over the tax FOR SURE for the rest of Harden's prime so it was important to duck it that year.
