A. It's not nearly as bad as it was made out to be from the fanboys B. It's not nearly as good as fanboys had dreamed it to be (because they know better then George Lucas or Kathleen Kennedy apparently) C. People take Star Wars way too seriously. Its a movie for kids. FOR KIDS. My five year old loves Rey, and has been dying to see this movie.... That tells you all you need to know. Enjoy it for what it is. Yes it has plot problems. The antagonist of this film was not seeded into the plot. I get it. But the film in the end is enjoyable, has heart, and has an ending that is vey ambiguous even in its obviousness. It is what it is. I feel like its perfectly fine, and there's no way they could do much better with a plan that just never had coherence due to multiple people who had multiple visions for the trilogy. It's as good as it could have been under that pretense. You can't do anything about it so deal with it, and either enjoy it or don't even see it.
Reylo chemistry is bananas. They should have leaned all the way into Reylo. Rey should have accepted Kylo's hand in the 2nd movie. With Star Wars, simple is always better.
Far too many seem to be ignoring putting spoilers around the comments about the movie that give away stuff. OK, so I exaggerated! I saw it yesterday and will comment later. Maybe we need a "spoilers" thread about the flick.
Ep. IX is a smoldering discombobulated pile of fan service. My 10 year old loved it, so I guess it has that going for it.
I loved it. Got me pumped for more Star Wars. They fan serviced it up, but that’s what I wanted to see after the suckfest of 8. Overall they should have put together a more cohesive narrative with one vision agreed upon by whoever it is that agrees upon this stuff. 8 has essentially nothing to do with 7 and Abrams said **** you to 8 and continued what he started with 9. That’s fine. I was entertained with the whole thing despite the flaws.
i dun understand why fan service is so bad. doesn't that mean they give you what you want? as opposed to a rian johnson self service, I'll take this any day (altho i enjoyed tlj when i saw it).
Well the complaint would be replacing a cohesive story that makes sense for fan service. Fan service is fine as long as it doesn't detract from making the overall narrative have cohesion and make sense.
The fact that it is better than 8 - far better than 8 - really made it fine for me. I walked in not too excited after how pathetic 8 was. I walked out very pleased.
I enjoyed all 3 of the films. I’d probably rank them 8>9>7. I feel like 7 did a pretty bad job of setting up the series. I’m planning on rewatching all 3 this week and may re-rank them, but overall I’m satisfied with what Disney has done and excited that we will continue to get more good Star Wars content.
7 setup the series but 8 basically did nothing with it. So if 8 is your favorite, I get that complaint. I like the way 7 got it kicked off, even if it’s just a new hope remake.
Not terrible, but not good either. Easily better than that last abomination FWIW. The Force Awakens did a good job of getting people invested in the new characters, but it failed to really set a solid plot foundation beyond Rey the Jedi. The Last Jedi was a complete waste of time, and accomplished nothing but pissing everybody off, it really killed the trilogy. A lot of what happened in this movie should have happened in that one instead of Casino adventures. This movie was left to pick up the pieces and try to basically do 2 movies worth of expositing. The writing in general for the entire trilogy was really, really bad. The amount of Jedi magic ass pulls was absurd. It's clear they had no plan for this beyond a rough framework and they just had to salvage what they could in this one. Spoiler Seeing Chewie finally get his medal may have been my favorite fandom reference ever. My final Star Wars movie rankings 5>4>>3>7>6>1>>9>>>>2>>8
