I’m looking at radar and it looks like the rain will probably be cleared out by 7pm. Who schedules this ****?
No, Astros starting pitchers provide value by pitching more innings at a very high quality. Sanchez is fine for the regular season. He even did great against the NL in the playoffs. Sanchez's ERA and FIP after the first time through the order are greater than 5.00. I would not call that someone that I would trust to "keep them competitive" whether against the Astros or the Yankees when Astros/Yankees are playing relievers, with ERAs, FIPs around 3.00, 3.50. It may be unfair, but Sanchez will likely be used longer than he should be leading to negative value. I doubt Urquidy will be.
Won't the Yankees be in the same position we are? If they pitch Tanaka and Paxton in GM 4 & 5, then that leaves bullpen game for them in GM 6 just like us I believe. Maybe we can tax their bullpen in GM 4 & 5 and have a fresh Urquidy/Peacock/James for GM 6 to give us 5-6 innings or so. Relievers would be more comfortable pitching at home in GM 6 although that is a lot of pressure whether we are up 3-2 or down 2-3.
Bottomline: our hitters have to hit, drive in runs, and play great defense. We have the talent, but they have to deliver. Tanaka smoked them last time; I don't think he will be as effective.
Astros hitters are better than anyone at making adjustments as a series progresses after seeing pitchers a second time. They’ve still got AB’s from his start fresh in their heads, how he approached them, film to look at, certain things they can pick up, etc. I don’t want a GM6
True, but Yankees have done more bullpen games during the year than Astros have. Greene has been very good against the Astros, and would have enough rest to be the opener if there is a game Saturday. Yankees are 11-4 in games he’s served as the opener. it’s clear that Hinch would not rather throw the bullpen game unless absolutely necessary.
lol. I live in NYC. Went to a Stros/Yankees regular season game (in Astros gear). Most people were cool. Some drunk dude started talking trash and blasting me, the Astros, and Houston. Then, he asked my friend (from Germany, so no affiliation to either team) for a smoke. I told the dude to F off and we left.
Even if the rain ends in time for a late start the wind is going to be howling. Seriously though why are they scheduling another day game? These should all be played in primetime if at all possible especially with the National League decided.
