Given the nobody knows where you're at, or what options are around you....I'd guess that you're not going to beat that price from Walmart
I can get to several of the big 3, Kroger, Walmart and HEB just wanted to know if any was the best. thanks for the info. I am south of College Station that's where I mainly shop.
Don't know, I'd assume Kroger is like everyone else, but HEB and Walmart have different level - A/B/C - stores with varying quality. Hell, just call the butcher dept and ask.
Do you want me to just drive down there and buy them for you? HEB here has them for less than $5/lb, if you go for the top blades they're closer to 7.
Had Blood Bros. recently. I wasn't terribly impressed. The brisket was pretty good and the ribs were tasty. Just didn't stand out. I did enjoy the fried rice. That was really good.
Are there any recommendations for lesser known bbq joints around the state you can vouch for? My brother and I are obviously going to Franklins, everywhere in Lockhart etc. However we'll be driving across much of the state after landing in Fort Worth, West to El Paso, North to Amarillo, unsure if we'll go further than Houston East and not sure how far South yet. So plenty of ground covered in the 5 weeks I'm here and plenty of bbq to eat.
Today’s episode of not quite Texas BBQ is from a Louisiana Style BBQ joint called Satchmo’s In Flagstaff Arizona. I was worried they might have an identity crisis but they were pretty good even if expensive. I had the half rack with tots, and red beans and rice. Ribs were well cooked and tasty. Mopped but not sauced. Juicy and tender, crisp to the bone but easy to the bite. Not Texas smoked good but DAMN tasty. The did get bonus points for jamming the old Jazz greats and free wifi.
Special note: If you're away from Texas for an extended amount of time and you find yourself in a Rudy's BBQ in Albuquerque NM, forego the overcooked BBQ and just get a large side of their Green Chili Stew. It was exceptional.
I buy their green chile stew even in Texas during the winter months. Their bbq is hit or miss, but I like their stew on a cold day.
Hmm... the one I go to seems to have it all the time. When it came out, it may have been a "just winter" or "limited time only" thing, but here in the DFW area, I think I've seen it on their menu all throughout the summer for a loooong time. I haven't had it in about a year or two, though.
The Pork ribs at Brett’s Backyard Bar-b-Que in Rockdale TX are fantastic. Some of the best I’ve ever had. Cooked perfectly, sweet, spicy and deliciously So good I went back and ordered another quarter pound. A+++ Moist brisket was a solid B but paled in comparison to the ribs.
