Scrappy news out of Boston: Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia will take an "indefinite leave" in his long struggle to recover from knee trouble, putting in doubt whether he'll play again in the majors. The 35-year-old Pedroia has tried the past two seasons to fully return from surgery on his left knee. At a news conference Monday at Fenway Park, Red Sox President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski called it an "indefinite leave at this point." Boston put the longtime star on the 60-day injured list. Pedroia said, "Time will give me the right answer if my knee can do this." The gritty 2008 American League MVP had surgery Oct. 25, 2017, and played in just three games last season. This year, he's played in only six games, getting two singles in 20 at-bats. Also, a reminder that Manny Machado is a dirty, dirty b!tch: Pedroia's knee troubles began in April 2017, when then-Orioles star Manny Machado took out Pedroia with a hard slide at second base. https://www.wcvb.com/article/boston...-never-play-again-due-to-knee-injury/27603387
According to Jim Salisbury and Corey Seidman of NBC Sports Philadelphia, Odubel Herrera was arrested Monday night and charged with domestic violence. The alleged incident involved his 20-year-old girlfriend took place at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The details are disturbing, as the police report states that his girlfriend "had visible signs of injury to her arms and neck that was sustained after being assaulted by her boyfriend, David Odubel Herrera, during a dispute." The Phillies or MLB have yet to issue a statement, but look for him to be placed on the restricted list as MLB begins an investigation. MLB has placed Odubel Herrera on administrative leave following his arrest for domestic violence on Monday night. Herrera will be inactive for the next seven days as MLB begins their investigation into an alleged incident with his 20-year-old girlfriend in Atlantic City, New Jersey, though the leave policy can be extended. Herrera could face a lengthy suspension regardless of how the legal situation plays out. Scott Kingery will presumably get an extended opportunity in center field for Philadelphia.
First report on Ortiz said "leg wound", now reports say he was shot in the back with the bullet exiting his stomach. People don't always survive an injury like that. Best wishes for him making a full recovery.
Thankfully sounds like he will survive the attack. Very fortunate if he can recover from this. The shooter was hospitalized after the bar patrons showed their appreciation. Hope he doesn't recover.
I have no love for the Sox, but can they finally do something about Hernandez? It’s beyond ridiculous.
