Starting to think he's not going to be healthy this year and will need another procedure in the offseason. He might have to limp around through the playoffs.
I think y'all are just trying to see something. There may have been an ever so slight hiccup coming around 2nd but the 2nd base monster does that to runners all the time. Have seen Altuve stumble to the ground after rounding 2nd.
He was pissed at his popfly and was jogging until he got right around 2B, then he turned it on when he saw the LF had lost the ball. Didn't look great, but we'll see. They left him in for 4 more innings in the field and also to run after he drew a walk as the winning run in the 9th, so that has to mean something I'd imagine.
Man, I hope it's just me "trying to see something" cause my instinct, I'd assume, about an Altuve injury is "trying to see nothing." But I see something.
There was one guy on the Astros Facebook fan page saying he was at the game. He posted videos of his at bats. Said he doesn't look like his old self just yet. I guess we will find out something around noon.
keep him out for as long as they need too. We have Springer coming back next week hopefully and correa around all star break. Sit tuve out imo.
You have a 150 mil committed to him. Make sure he is a 100% before he comes back. No need for a Durant. That contract is looking like it was a bad signing. I know he deserves the money for what he has already done, but 30 mil for a guy on the wrong side of 30 with bad legs sounds like a recipe for a disaster.
That injury last year really effected him a lot. I don’t have the splits in front of me, but his production pre and post were drastically different. I have wondered this season, if he would ultimately be moved to 1st or DH. I can deal with a positional move and loss of speed if his bat is what it was. He has to be able to put force on his lower half.
The contract was always a bad signing, the Astros were not going to get production through the life of the signing. The signing wasn’t made purely out of value terms.
Even if Altuve is half as productive over the next 5 years as he was the last 5 years, the contract will be ok. I think calls to move him off 2B are premature. They need to keep him out as long as needed to make sure he’s as close to 100% as he can ever be, even if it means shutting him down for the entire season (which likely means spending prospects to add another star hitter). An older, slower, but healed Altuve can still be a 2-4 win 2B (who maybe needs 25% of his PA to come from DH) through the life of his contract; he could still reach 2500+ hits and likely get into the HOF. But a hobbled Altuve is a 1-2 win player who will rapidly decline into a replacement level DH. I will say I think Altuves days of being a 5+ WAR MVP candidate are gone.
My concern is another Dustin Podora situation. I really hope not and like i said I hope we hear something today.
