Really good book, hope they do it justice.

Somebody remember to bump this thread or else I'll forget about it, being on NG and all.

Loved the book -- learning your lab contained a new strain of airborne ebola must have been truly horrifying.

I didn't know he did another book until the ads just told me: The Demon in the Freezer. Sounds interesting. Per wiki:

The book is primarily an account of the Smallpox Eradication Program (1967–1980), the ongoing perception by the U.S. government that smallpox is still a potential bioterrorism agent, and the controversy over whether or not the remaining samples of smallpox virus in Atlanta and Moscow (the "demon" in the freezer) should be finally destroyed. However, the writer was overtaken by events—the 9/11 attacks and the anthrax letter incidents (called "Amerithrax"), both in 2001—and so much of the book interweaves the anthrax investigation with the smallpox material in a manner some critics have said is "awkward"[1] and somewhat "disjointed"

You are correct. They are sticking pretty close to the general series of events as I remember them while overdramatizing and fictionalizing some things. Disappointing, but the first 2 episodes were worth watching, just don't expect the bleak realism of Chernobyl.

Outbreak was pretty ridiculous. This isn't on that level (yet?).

    I really liked "Contagion"

I am not impressed, one ep. in. It's kind of on the border of what I'd keep watching.

I like that Julianna marguiles has a "Carter!" to scream at again (the professional!), and Forman from that 70's show.

Edit: wait, no one's done a "hot zone" julianna marguiles menopause zinger yet?

If you love "Outbreak" with dumbass Dustin Hoffman, you'll love the stupidity starting in the 3rd episode.

Ug, very disappointing -- they aren't capturing the real life creepiness of the book at all.
