Good move for the Ravens getting anything useful in return. Not sure I get it for the Broncos. Despite his past playoff success, Flacco isn't an improvement over Keenum, and the still have to be looking for his replacement in the draft. Maybe the contract situation is better for Flacco (I know he has no more guaranteed money).
I'm glad Keenum will get out of that shithole organization. Broncos acquired QB Joe Flacco from the Ravens in exchange for a 2019 fourth-round pick. Denver had a pair of fourth-rounders in April's draft, and they'll send their own to Baltimore and keep the one it got from Houston in the Demaryius Thomas trade. The move will be officially official when the new league year opens on March 13. Flacco is 34 with a troubling injury history that includes back and hip issues along with a torn ACL a few years back. The guy simply cannot move outside of the pocket and is going to need serious protection from an offensive line that on paper looks like one of the league's worst at the moment. New OL coach Mike Munchak is suddenly a very important piece. As for Flacco's fit in the offense, new OC Rich Scangarello is part of the Shanahan/Kubiak tree, which Flacco played under in Baltimore when Kubiak was the OC. At the end of the day, this may not be a huge upgrade, but it is one from Case Keenum, who will now be shopped by the Broncos. Flacco has three years left on his contract. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Broncos "will now shop" Case Keenum after acquiring Joe Flacco from the Ravens on Wednesday. Keenum inked a two-year, $36 million deal with Denver last offseason and was never going to be anything more than a short-term stopgap, one that now looks like will only last a single season. Keenum is guaranteed $7 million in 2019 and carries a $21 million cap hit with an $18 million base salary. Only a team that views Keenum as a starter would trade for that financial commitment. If the Broncos end up having to release Keenum, they'd clear $11 million in cap space and absorb a $10 million dead-money hit. Either way, Keenum is expected to be done in Denver.
flacco is honestly trash and should be out of the NFL Elway just doesnt want to put in a position to draft either haskins or murray. Dude has always had type of qb he wants
That's a little dramatic, don't you think? He's still got some mileage left in him...but if Denver is thinking of him as anything other than another stopgap, then they're sorely mistaken. Elway is a terrible talent evaluator...at least on offense it would seem. Keenum, Sanchez, Brock, Lynch, Simien...Elway has been a big fat 0-for since Peyton landed in his lap (thank you, Gary "I'm gonna roll with Schaub" Kubiak).
