Ohio State HC Urban Meyer has been placed on paid administrative leave while the program investigates his possible knowledge of earlier domestic violence accusations against former WR coach Zach Smith. College football insider Brett McMurphy published several reports on Wednesday morning alleging that Meyer previously knew about allegations of domestic violence against Smith from 2015. He denied outright during Big Ten Media Days last week that he was aware of these complaints. OSU moved to terminate Smith last Tuesday. With Meyer on leave for at least the start of August camp, OC Ryan Day will work as acting head coach in the short term. We'll pass along updates as information warrants. Ohio State opens the season against Oregon State on Sept. 1. Spoiler
He won't lose his job. He makes the college millions and it will all be swept under the rug in due time. Slap on the wrist and back at it.
Maybe in 2015, 2010, or 1995, but in 2018, he might be done. NCAA in both basketball and football have been exercising alot of demons in the last 10 years.
Lawyers will have a field day with Ohio St if they were to fire him. They will have to prove he really knew about it. Doesn't look like that is there with the information presented.
Agreed those days are somewhat over. We’ll see what comes to light but placing your HC on leave a few days before fall camp is big. AD and President have to be 100% ABSOLUTELY sure Urban didn’t know before bringing him back or they’d be walking with him.
What saves Urban here in my opinion is that she rescinded charges. Called 911 repeatedly and hung up. And you have in text that Urban does not know what to believe. Pretty jacked up that this report seems aimed at Meyer's job. Urban's wife seems like she was truly trying to help. Interesting to see what happens here.
Unless he has a morality clause. Then they could cut his nuts off. Didn't he use to be sn alcoholic? Yeah he definitely has a morality clause
I don't think you get how much the atmosphere has changed the last couple of years. It's a PR issue. If Urban Meyer becomes radioactive, he's gone. Not even Ohio State could endure the protests and scathing media coverage. Recruits (perhaps in sports beyond football) would avoid them like the plague. OSU will cut bait and move on if their image is at stake. The only thing lawyers would have a field day about is how much they owe him.
Urban Meyer being crooked? you don't say. I thought after he covered up all the crap Aaron Hernandez did I'm surprised he hasn't been involved in anything else shady until now
Right or wrong, that’s not really the standard nowadays. They’ll almost have to prove the opposite in that he didn’t know or had no way of knowing IMO. At the end, think it’ll be up to OSU and how much they will put the brand at risk.
Not knowing what to believe isn’t the same as “not knowing,” “not being told anything,” “nothing coming to light”as Urban stated at Big 10 media days. Title IX requires him to report an incident within 5 days if he becomes aware of one. The texts show that he was made aware, whether he believed it or not is irrelevant.
He's very likely gone. And if so, good riddance. "Administrative leave" could simply be code for "negotiating the terms of his departure".
Florida was basically a free for all under Urban. The double murder happened years after he left but the stories out of Gainesville are not good. Read something that 40+ of the120 players recruited by Urban at Florida had been arrested or got into some legal trouble.
He's 100% gone. What a bombshell, IDK how you can cover up DV. His football career should be over, but in CF... he will get another chance SADLY. His wife will be fired too under IX.
