Why do people keep using "should of" and "could of"?

    When did this start?
    It's like the entire internet forgot it's should have (should've) or could have (could've).

    And yes, I have given up on correcting "your" vs. "you're"

    Example comment on the interwebs: Your an idiot. I should of punched you.

    I've never really bothered to correct people w/ your/you're. I'll just reply with it used properly in future replies (if I get a chance to). Some learn, some don't, and others don't seem to care (since they're not writing an important doc etc.). Regardless, great lesson/reminder here.

    1. It's easier to type "should of" instead of "should've"

    2. "Should of" phonetically sounds like it's right, so it's hard to fault people for that.

    people also say “I could care less” a lot

    That's not the way grammar nazism works. Language is a concrete concept which does not allow for creativity and adaption even out side of the standard formal version of it.

    It's not creativity, it's ignorance. People who say "should of" probably dont read a lot, and have never seen the correct phrase written out.
    They probably can't find the time to read because they're too busy being killing puppies and tripping old ladies on the street.
