How'd it work out for Golden State when Kevin Durant walked into the Warriors record setting season? All of those chefs (four players who made all NBA team) and what happened? Oh yeah, another championship. Then they added Boogie Cousins, and are going to win the championship again next season. The Warriors are ******** on your logic.
Look, the logic is pretty damn simple. Without Melo the Rockets have no chance at beating GS. Period. With Melo, if he doesn't work out, sulks, or heck even if he just play mediocre, the Rockets have no chance at beating GS. Period. So nothing lost. With Melo, if he does work out, synergies with CP3 - his best friend - becomes Olympic Melo, turns back the clock and becomes 70% of his peak, the Rockets probably still lose to GS. But they do increase the chance of an upset. So we either still lose for sure, or increase the odds. What's the downside? When Morey said increase the variance against GS, Melo is the definition of it.
Melo was not a good three point shooter until NY, and was generally the first option without great PGs or other scorers around him. Ariza shot roughly 30% from three in the playoffs the last 2 seasons as like a 4th option lol
On top of that it seems like when it comes to Golden State they don't have to make concessions to their play styles but any time anyone else teams up you gotta bring a guy off the bench or he can only stand in the corner. GS has done a remarkable job blending together everyone's talents and maximizing them. You never want to limit your talent, its why Golden State has won 3 of 4, they allow everyone's talents to stand out.
Morey is really calculated, he wouldn't make this move if wasn't sure of it. Like he said its a weapons race. Get the talent now and figure out the rest later.
Melo will have no effect on us beating GSW. Really what this is about is trying to make Melo a decent scorer off the bench almost as good as Gordon, which frees us to get a mid to late first round pick for Gordon, which frees us to trade Ryno for a 3&D wing.
We have a chance and I would say its at the 50% when healthy. With Melo, the % goes up some, but the margin of error is increased more to allow for incidentals (injuries and what nots).
The question is simple: Olympic Melo or Pippen II. I'm banking on the former. That fully assumes, of course, Me7o opts to come to TheToyShop.
Dadburnit, every game and every match in every sport has the 'if healthy' element contained. What were the incidentals w/Steph then Dray v LeBron when oops, 3-1 become 3-4? What would the Knixies look like if KPo were not injured? (Oops, ruined my narrative quickly.)
Always surprises me how aggressively Morey is willing to pursue Melo, year in and year out. He really must see something in terms of fit that i don't. But as othera have pointed out, it looks to be Melo or bust this off season.
I got you. Ok take the if healthy out. It's the same for every team. Just the more talent you have the less an injury reduces your effectiveness.
Fair enough, let overall talent prevail. And talent includes collecting the pieces. And talent includes putting the pieces into the right places. (And talent might include limiting MPG during reg season as much as reasonably, realistically possible.)
Relax. By t'mow afternoon. Their trade market has dried up, it's a new week. By Thurs at the latest you will know what fortunate franchise will have been anointed by Me7o.* *Hoyle...according to xiki.
