First off I want to say I don’t think JJ has fell off but the plague of injuries have brought him down Regardless JJ Watt may never have the incredible seasons he had previously with the team as that’s normal for aging nfl players but he can still be a huge super star force beside Clowney. I’m just curious how much he has left in the tank and if he show glimpses of his old self in what should of been his mvp season two years ago
JJ is the greatest defensive player of all time IMO too....and, is a superstar forever where it counts. That said, due to these injuries, he's lost his second move. Watt will get deep penetration, but after that is when things are different. And, susceptibility to another injury is very high. Folks might wonder why the odds are so low, despite his condition. DW on his way to becoming the best in the league. Shoring up the secondary. The injuries from last year.....JJ will still impact the game, but now IF he goes down, he can be replaced easier by another guy who can get that penetration. Merciless was out, yes...but an extra edge rusher behind him will give us insurance. Lastly, the offensive line...that's the ?, as far as I'm concerned, but fortunately DW feels it, reads it, and kicks ass. We still need more help there though. Anyway, go JJ ! Go Texans !
Was NEVER a superstar, will never be a superstar. You can't call Fatt a superstar when he leads his team to EMBARASING 2-14 seasons and 0-30 HUMILIATION at HOME If you want to see a superstar, look at James Harden. Never missed the playoffs with the Rockets, turned a mediocre 9 seed team to 1st in the NBA.
I dont think so. His body has been through too much over the past couple of seasons. Plus, father time is undefeated.
I think best case is him getting back to near all-pro level, which is still pretty damn good. Before the injury he was easily the most disruptive defensive player I have ever seen. He would seemingly shut down 3-5 drives with a big play every game. Expecting him to get back to GOAT defensive player level after multiple surgeries is asking a lot. It certainly won't be for lack of effort on his part though.
I think we all realize the chances are close to nil. I just hope he makes it through an entire season.
I think he can be just as destructive as justin smith for the 49ers was. His whole style is going to change. And there is nothing bad about that.
@FTW Rockets FTW We get it. You don't like JJ Watt or football. Could you just avoid these threads instead of polluting them? I, for one, completely get your feelings on the subject and I respect them. But you've never offered anything new to the discussion and it has become pretty repetitive... kinda like hollic discussing Capela. I appreciate your posts on literally every other topic, so I sincerely hope you don't take this as a personal attack. Would you mind just let us enjoy our "eggball" in peace, please? Thanks in advance!
I wish he could! I think he’s done thou...like “done” done. I can’t imagine him ever being what he was.
I think it'll be considerably easier for JJ Watt to make a comeback than some are suggesting. He won't have to be the guy who is triple teamed anymore due to guys like Clowney DJ Reader and Mercilus being out there, the O line simply doesn't have enough players to throw that much attention at Watt with so many other guys that demand attention. With that factored in, I think it all just depends on if he can stay healthy or not and without him rushing back this time, I think he can pull it off.
I think he can be a hell of a passing down specialist but not a every down in the the trenches run stopper.
