No idea how Chris Warren got an invite over the a First Team All Conference and Defensive Lineman of the Year player.
Man, Hudson is still out with a knee injury after tearing his ACL last September. The JUCO Grandy is also out with a concussion. We Great pickup especially considering the lack of depth at LB. Here are some write-ups about what is going on in spring practice. It's crazy that OL Hudson is still out after injuring his knee last September. The JUCO OL we just got is also out with a concussion. It'll be nice to get 5 new scholarship linemen in a few months.
Mixed news from the UT front the past week or so: Good: - 4 Longhorns drafted in the 2018 draft (Williams - 2nd, Jefferson - 3rd, Dickson - 4th, and Elliott - 6th) - Received commitment from 4* CB Keyatta Watson II out of Georgia. https://247sports.com/player/kenyatta-watson-ii-89396 Bad: - Holton Hill going undrafted and Elliott falling to the 6th (see below). - Urban plucking out 5* WR Garrett Wilson right out from Herman's backyard. Wilson's reasoning was the lack of player development at Texas. Usually don't worry too much about recruiting this early out, especially with the way Herman closed out last season but losing out on Wilson hurts for a multitude of reasons. The #1 DT in the State also committed to Fisher and Co. a few weeks back. Hopefully Watson can give us some momentum...
Holton Hill's character issues kept him from getting drafted. He was possibly a late 1st round talent, definitely a 2nd-3rd round talent. It is disappointing to lose Wilson, but Wilson lived near Columbus until he was 12. He was not some random Texas pull for Ohio State. I find it hard to argue with Wilson's reasoning regarding our offensive development. We have struggled badly on that side of the ball for the past five years.
I completely understand picking Ohio State over Texas at this point, but using "lack of player development" as a reason sounds ridiculous when Herman has been there for one season.
I hope the draft sent a lesson to underclassmen not to always buy into the hype. Williams went a round lower than he thought he would. Jefferson might have thought he was a 2nd round pick and Elliott probably thought he was better than 6th. We have a long way to go until the 1st commitment day. Hopefully a great regular season could flip a few kids back our way.
Ya Hill was his own doing for sure. But still seems like the program and players provide material to negatively recruit against. But winning cures all.
OT: Reddit r/CFB has created a game of CFB Risk. I wasn’t a Reddit user until this game started, but it’s entertaining. We need more people to join and support Texas. Details here: Spoiler Texas strategy subreddit (private): https://www.reddit.com/r/UT_CFB_Command_Center
Nice addition to the backfield. Think Watson fits the mold a little better of what Herman’s wants than the current backs on the roster. Adding Ingram in the fall will nice as well.
shout out to Connor Willams for being a steal in the second round, Cowboys got a steal there. also shout out to Bob "Senile Al Davis 2.0" Mcnair for trading HOU's second round pick to cut salary when it could have been used to draft Connor Williams and keep Deshaun alive. How was he the 10th o-lineman drafted again?
Chris Del Conte's enthusiasm is impressive, but it's definitely refreshing that he's not just talk. He has executed well on his plans in the past.
