RGV Vipers Acquire Returning Player Rights for RJ Hunter in Trade with Long Island Hidalgo, Texas, October 20, 2017 – The Rio Grande Valley Vipers acquired the returning player rights for RJ Hunter from the Long Island Nets in exchange for Rio Grande Valley’s 1st round pick in the 2018 NBA G League draft. Hunter played in a total of 29 games during the 2016-17 NBA G League season with 18 starts. During the season RJ Hunter averaged 18.2 points (.388 FG%, .321 3pt%, .772 FT%), 2.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists between his time with Windy City Bulls and Long Island Nets. The 2017 NBA G League Draft will be held on Saturday, Oct. 21. ----------- Hunter was a first round pick of the Celtics in 2015. He was waived a year later.
Seems like a nice fit for the Vipers backcourt. Should pair pretty well with Demetrius Jackson. . . Here's the remainder of the training camp roster per the Viper's website. Danuel House Forward 6’7 215 Texas A&M Isaiah Hartenstein Forward 7’0 250 Germany Demetrius Jackson Guard 6’1 201 Notre Dame Craig Victor II Forward 6’9 235 LSU Alvin Ellis Guard 6’4 210 Michigan State Julien Lewis Guard 6’4 195 Fresno State Chris Walker Forward 6’10 220 Florida Shane Richards Guard 6’5 195 Manhattan College Kevin Hardy Guard 6’2 181 McNeese State University Georginho De Paula Guard 6’6 194 Brazil Kyle Davis Guard 6’0 165 Dayton RJ Hunter Guard 6’5 185 Georgia State Tony Wroten Guard 6’6 205 Washington Devon Bookert Guard 6’3 181 Florida State Rodney Cooper Guard 6’6 220 Alabama I'm curious to see how House will do. Hartenstein as well.
Anyone else notice former 1st round pick RJ Hunter is signed to our G-League team. Between RJ Hunter and Tony Wroten I hope we can develop a secondary ball handler to come off the bench. http://gleague.nba.com/player/rj-hunter/
We have RJ Hunter, Tony Wroten, Isaiah Canaan, Demetrius Jackson and Bobby Brown doing paid auditions for the position of 4th guard... and I've still seen people on the board trashing Morey for not paying attention to the 4th guard "situation". EDIT: AND BRIANTE WEBER!!! (credit to heyp for the reminder)
Why is our new 2-way player getting no love in this thread ... Briante Weber btw: Vipers also have Devon Bookert -- that name got him the job ... close enough.
For those of you who are fans, this kid's game and shot has been picking up as the season has gone one... he's starting to launch 3's Rockets-style -- double-digit 3 pt attempts the last few games and shooting a great percentage from out there. He just put up 40 points today shooting 7-14 from 3 point range. Here are the highlights :
Contested. On the move. Catch-and-shoot. Pull up. From everywhere deep. He's got the whole array. I doubt he lasts much longer at this level. Somebody is gonna pick him up if we don't sign him.
So much better passer and higher BBIQ than Troy Williams too. Not as explosive but much more consistent offensively and defensively. Would replace Weber with Hunter right now.
I can see Hunter being apart of the Rockets bench mob next year. We will finally have a light skinned assassin of our own
Can we buy the 1st pick to 2018 G League Draft to draft Darius Bazley? Are their rules that allow Rockets to sign him as a two way player? Morey tell Paulis to get it done! *Photoshop Paulis head over Morey meme.*
