I've been to plenty of rockets games It's like the crowd waits for the players to get them involved if the players come out flat the crowd will be flat. I watch gsw and okc after a few missed shots their crowd gets loud to try to get them back in the game
Houston crowd sucks, but I gotta say the economy in Houston doesn't help. Oil prices have been tanking since late 2014, and I still see empty restaurants all over the place. It's pretty extreme. You'll see extravagant nice cars being driven by people who got fat paychecks through selloffs and buyouts, and people who were blue collar workers being completely screwed for years who can't afford anything being unemployed for several years. In general, only young people who stick around Houston are in school. I'm one of the only younger ones hired by my company in the past 5 years. Everyone's just old. Unfortunately, Houston just isn't a hip city for young people who'd want to spend money on stuff like this. Houston needs to add economic activity other than petroleum-based stuff. Not even financial/banking/services will save the city.
We have a new PA announcer. The Black UNIs an offensive mastermind as coach, 2 hall of famers in the same backcourt the 2nd best team in the nba and it sounds like a ****ing Golf game smh
All these financial excuses are lame, just like the “corporate crowd” nonsense. I go to games throughout the year and always sit in the lower bowl. The idea that it is full of corporate lackeys not wanting to cheer is nonsense. The bowl is a mix of families, folks with their clients, friends hanging out, girls dressed like skanks looking for that nba player pregnancy, young people, old couples, people on dates, sturdy and urban folks, etc. It looks like any other arena mix of crowd. They're just quiet. I don’t know why. They go nuts for free T-shirts. The atmosphere is just so laid back and I think people just kind of blend into it. The late arrival thing has been an issue since that arena was built. I think that is a product of it being downtown in a city where most people commute a good distance.
I wonder if Fertitta hears this. He has to right? Is he going to do anything about it? This has been mentioned by the broadcasters in every home Rockets nationally televised game. It's pretty pathetic for a contender level team.
different kind of fans. DRUNK. People get really drunk before football games. People are just getting out of work for basketball games.
Probaby right. Also for some reason WOMEN seem to love football more than basketball. I heard the NFL makes tons of $$$ off women fans through ticket sales & merchandise. But NBA basketball is by FAR the most exciting sport. The Rockets are by FAR the most exciting team in Houston. Yet our attendance is among the worst
Different generation of women. Young women LOVE the NBA. Older middle aged women love football. This tread also relates to men. Football popularity hit it's peak a few years ago and is sliding. Basketball is the second most popular sport now even ahead of baseball.
I agree that its weird that NRG is still full even when the Texans suck but its pretty easy to go to 8 games than it would be to go 41 times a year on random days. Most Texans games start at noon on a Sunday. Not a lot is happening on Sundays from noon to 3. That's like siesta time.
The corners in the lower bowl don't really really count. They're the cheapest lower-bowl tickets, and they're usually not bought out by corporate offices. I buy those from time to time. The sideline lower-bowl seats are the corporate buys, and yeah, they're always late for the game and look like they're not there as fans. EDIT: Also, the TVs don't show the corner lower-bowl fans that often. They show those sideline seats, mid-section.
Simmons is wrong. 1) Hawks 2) Suns 3) Pistons 4) Pelicans 5) Magic Then there are the Bulls who have similar problems with the Rockets with companies who buy tickets only to be empty- except their problems are also in the playoffs, the Nets and Clippers who at best have 10% of the ppl in the arena being their fans the others are tourists, and the Mavs have empty arenas as well. So it's bad but not that bad to stick out that much compared to others. It only looks worse because they are winning now. But the Hawks and Wizards also had/have pretty successful teams the last years and their fanbase was even more apathetic.
They had this crowd during the tmac yao era, what happen was they got tired of getting all exicted for a team that couldnt ever get out of the first round. lol Spurs, dallas , and utah teams would just ruin the rockets.
I think bottom 3 is a stretch, but given that we have had a consistently quality product on the floor we are not a great hoops town for whatever reason. The Texans are always supported, Minute Maid Park is a madhouse in big games, but Toyota Center is almost always rather dead, even in the postseason.
They need to get rid of the red rowdies. Bunch of weirdos that just cheer random things and really don't know much of anything about basketball...except rocketgirl
such a sad truth, even when watching from tv, you can feel it, no energy from the home crowd, everybody is just chilling there, laughing, enjoying themselves, nobody is cursing the other team, whatever....
