It's blowing up right now. Reminds me of the 80s when Euro Pop started to hit the airwaves here in the states. Also their videos look like Wes Anderson shorts.
Man I've listened to K-Pop for a few years now, never understood why it wasn't more popular, same with Japanese music. The production and artists are extremely good, but I guess so far you had to use English to gain a larger audience. If you also like RnB and Hip Hop, there are great artists like Ailee and Dynamic Duo as well, will post some music later here. Nell is great if you're into melancholic rock.
I'm into the more RnB hip hop bop. I really like the mesh mix between 90s RnB and early 2000 pop. It just seems to blend well and the videos are always top stuff.
I had a job assignment in Bangkok Thailand where I spent about 6 - 9 months on and off back in 2009. I remember that these Kpop songs were huge there at the time. Heard these songs along with Akon and Lady Gaga everywhere I went. Edit: embeddd Korean version of Wonder Girls instead of English
BTS was on Kimmel last night. My wife gets bothered by how pretty those boys look with all their makeup and plastic surgery.
The moment male KPOP groups moved away from the edgy dark "deep" Linkin Park style music videos is the best decision they've had. They pretty much flesh out their own genre and style now.
Y'all should check out Epik High's new album. Soooo good. Tablo is the greatest Korean rapper ever, who actually has an English degree from Stanford.
Twice, Loona and Black Pink have recently captured my attention. I can't understand anything they are saying, but it's fun. I like Girl Groups.
