$500,000 each? Someone start calculating what proportion of their income/net worth that amounts to, so we'll know where to rank our anger toward them, among all donors.
Sylvester: We are the 4th largest city in the US. Harris County is the 3rd largest in the US. Combine the two, you're talking 6.5M people. You cannot put 6.5M people on the road two days before the storm when you don't know where it's going. It's absurd. ... Ask people to prepare & they did. I have answered questions on evacuations over & over again. There will be a proper time to do that. My primary concern for all the talking heads & those second guessing, come and join us help rescue those who need help being rescued. I'm more concerned about first responders working late at night in treacherous conditions. I'm concerned about first responders going without their medicine. I have police officers & firefighters right now living in neighborhoods flooded or are about to flood. They have left their homes to take care of other people & their families remain in harms way. I'm concerned about seniors & those disabled, low income individuals, communities in the inner city, in Kingwood, in Clear Lake, in Fort Bend, in Denver Harbor, in Spring Branch...those are the people I'm concerned with. That's where my priorities are. I'm going to allow the people on social media & talking heads to talk but they don't have the responsibility of running this city, I do. That's where my focus is. I want to focus on the people who need my help now. I'll allow people behind a desk not providing any support, not sending in one piece of clothing but can talk, talk, talk. What people want to see is whether their needs are being met. This is the City of Houston. We are the 4th largest city. Can you imagine a city like LA or anyone else moving in two days? You can't. We can take care what's in front of us & that's what we'll do.
He's right though. We're talking about a storm of unprecedented strength and capacity. Imagine this storm coming the way it did with hundreds of thousands of cars on the very roads that are currently underwater. The death toll would be in the hundreds if not thousands.
like most things, there are tradeoffs, pros and cons to any decision he made a judgment call this isn't like New Orleans with the corrupt/incompetent Ray Nagin
