We have to develop him as a 1B then. Just so he can be on the same side of the infield as Altuve. Not that height matters that much in baseball, but Whitley had the giraffe like disposition of Randy Johnson in that video. Maybe it's because he's filling out still / long limbs, but he seemed every bit of the 6-7 he's listed, if not more.
Or even crazier, our playoff surprise weapon out of the bullpen? A la when K-Rod first emerged as a dominating force for the Angels. That's so crazy it just might work.
I think that's highly probably. He'd be.... ~20 years, 7 months - about a year behind McCullers - so maybe they'll sit on him a year. But if he dominates AA..........
Different time and different regime, but Lyles debuted around that age. Let's hope that's the last Lyles comparison.
I highly doubt it. He'll be in big league camp but will assuredly start either in Corpus or Fresno. Could be on the fast track from there though if this kind of production continues on...
Yep. I am a proponent of doing this with all young, developmental pitchers.... makes it easier to repeat your delivery.
The Astros minor league system has been pushing for pitching out of the stretch at all times. It simplifies mechanics, limits injuries and doesn't effect velocity. The Astros wanted Martes to always pitch out of the stretch.
But these pitchers need to eventually pitch from the windup, correct? Without practice, how will they be able to repeat the delivery? A lot more moving parts there...
