Pat also left some money on the table to resign with us two years ago, per sources Kings and Knicks were both offering more money to him so...i don't get this tbh, to me it's more cause he really feels like he's being traded. At this point he can extend and get a 30x3 starting from 2019 btw...if i remember well, someone posted this a couple of days ago here.
My hunch is that Bev has beat out so many people since he's joined, and it is weighing heavy on his shoulders that we continue to seek replacements every single summer while he is hard at work continuing to improve his game. The icing on the cake may be that they even handed over PG duties completely to Harden, and Bev not only went along with it, but he knocked it out of the ball park. Shot 40% from 3 and played All-NBA level defense on an otherwise poor defensive team. A major reason we breezed by the Thunder. I agree with Bev here. Bev will never be an impressive playmaker, and Harden will never be able to be as impactful as he's been with a playmaking PG (though I do believe he can play with other playmakers), but are we ignoring just how many types of players have failed to create a great pairing with Harden? Beverley works. He doesn't turn it over, he plays hard, he motivates the team, he plays defense, he is a serious threat from 3pt range. Harden turns it over a lot, occasionally loses motivation, doesn't play defense. These guys are made for each other. It's a waste of time imo to seek a playmaking PG next to Harden unless it falls into our lap and the player is a giant positive. Chris Paul falls into that category I would make an exception for - an excellent defender and scorer aside from his excellent PG skills. I don't think we're likely to land Paul unless we land George first. I do believe we need a second playmaker, but I would rather get someone like a Batum or Draymond or Jokic, someone who can create differently and in different situations than Harden. That is a true added dimension, rather than the splitting of a single dimension between Harden and another PG where the drop in Harden's quantity of work would offset the gains in ball movement.
Pat pretty much the anti Parsons. Consistently brings it and his energy is infectious. That being said I do think he may be a taaad bit overrated on the defensive end and could be replaced by a cheaper defensive specialist without much dropoff. I'd miss his heart and energy more than his defense TBH. Millsap would do wonders for this team from an attitude and defensive standpoint.
My gut says this is about money. He is probably due an extension, and Morey and co are like uh, nope.
Yeah, good points, but it still feels kinda odd the way he came out about this yesterday... I mean, he was like this a couple of days ago: Spoiler Doesn't seem like he was impatient...
Sorry but Beverley is that damn over rated on here on his defence. He does a few good things on defence and he suddenly is considered a great defender.........
only because he has a lot of possessions of the ball, his turnover percentage against usage is quite low if you compare it to Stockton, Kidd etc..........but people don't look those things up.
Is this a move to set up for Westbrook? I know this is straight tin foil hype but.. It will be interesting to see Westbrook and OKC this summer, it's my understanding he has the ability to sign an extension similar to harden. If he doesn't then he will be likely in a situation where OKC will look to move him, rockets could be setting up to reunite harden and Westbrook. Could also be the case he plays 1 year elsewhere and signs here after. Harden is more likely to be happy sharing with his buddy, and Westbrook would probably have similar numbers or better (I know almost impossible) in a DAntoni system.
Wrong. He doesn't so a few things. He does all the things, some well, and some not so well. Overall, he is an incredible defender. And it's not sudden, he was good 2 years ago, dipped a year ago, and had his best ever defensive season just now. You are just clearly not watching all the games. You are clearly watching highlights and making judgements based on teen gossip you hear somewhere else. "OMG DID YOU SEE HOW MANY TIMES WESTBROOK BLEW BY BEVERLEY" lol Grow up. It's not a reasonable opinion. You are not the alternative to my opinion, which is also just an opinion. You are so far off the reasonable spectrum of opinions that you have made a cartoon out of the whole thing. Go do some homework, and if you're a Rockets fan you'll be happy to find that he's a much better defender than you think even for a pessimist. End of story. Thanks for the chat.
Only a moron would compare Beverley's turnover % to Stockton's. Go learn basketball please or stop speaking in caricature-ish absolutes.
On the one hand you're right. 40% three, solid defense. He can play point or off ball. A seemingly great locker room guy. And definitely, now, underpaid. On the other hand, he signed the contract, and he's definitely not irreplaceable or a top guard in this league. The biggest reason not to trade him is indeed his contract, as opposed to his play. of course that's also what makes him valuable, and a reason to potentially be traded. At the end of the day.... Who cares??
