Honestly the only one that did I believe was PDStat. He said Savage was looking better than Brock but no one listened because Brock was 36 mil. But at least he wasn't following the narrative looking at the 2 in camp. Not sure what he has said about Watson tho.
Yep, but the question is, is that a high or a low bar? I question media praise and emphasize any critical comments -- like "Brock looking sharp" = meh, "Brock misses pass" = probably missed 5 throws. And any excuse-making or qualifiers are a red flag. Still getting comfortable..., working on..., new..., young..., difficult conditions..., improving..., learning... all code for he's not there. I don't expect Watson to be close. Not this year. But with the other QBs, red flags lead to losses.
But didn't Brock look good in pre-season? So those beat writers of ours could've been right. John Harris overdue it but he will tell us if a player was having a bad day too. The other day he said the QB wasn't looking good on that day.
They all covered up that Brock did poorly in training camp. This time they aren't being so blatant but are still doing it.
I'll admit, I've only read stuff by John Harris only once or twice in my lifetime. Isn't he employed by the team? Doubt that guy would actually call out a player or say "this guy is bad" and probably just focuses on the positives.
Honestly, I think Harris knows his stuff but is the blindest of all Texan homers. He is the least trustworthy person I can think of when it comes to honest analysis regarding my team. Maybe he's not blind, but, oh lord, does he tow the company line. But, hey, can't wait to hear about the next HOU UDFA that will be sure to shock the world!
I forgot if it was Lance Z who was saying that Watson doesn't look that amazing in practice. Throws the ball too high, pretty much the same as in college. He needs a year to develop.
Great, two first rounders for a guy who can't throw accurately in not contact situations. That's not a problem Dak had. I hope it can be fixed so we can see his leadership and clutch on the field.
I don't take anything Lance Z seriously. He is the most full of crap football wannabe guru. But ya here diff reports from everyone so until we see him actually play, who knows. Anything is better than Brock.
Maybe he'll perform better when the lights are on like Dak does. http://www.espn.com/blog/dallas-cow...otts-best-ability-to-move-on-from-a-poor-play
There are "workout wonders" or "practice heroes" and then there are "gamers." Mario Williams was a "workout wonder," never that great on game day. Hoyer was a "practice hero," amazed when it didn't count and stunk when it did. My money is on DW to be a "gamer." When the lights come on he just wins.
Yet people here will still b**** and moan about one or two bad throwing days. Sounds like you all are doing the exact same thing scouts did to him in the draft. Over emphasizing everything.
Nah, he was bad. I heard Andre Ware on the radio tell a after the fact story about how he waited to go see Brock so he could settle in/get comfortable. When Ware finally saw him in camp he leaned over to Vandermeer and said, "This is not the guy". And Ware works for the Texans. Overstrides and too much knee bend can get you sailed throws and batted passes. Their working on it with him, and unlike Brock DW takes coaching and will do everything to get better. They'll get it sorted.
Lance hasn't been to any practices and hasn't said anything first hand about Watson. Second hand he's said Watson is young and it will take a while. As noted above Pat said that Savage is far ahead ... BUT he said Watson was ahead of Savage, Brock, Mallett, Hoyer and every other QB he has seen in year 1 of O'Brien's system. He said there is a learning curve, but he's starting in a good place. You guys are looking for immediate answers to a question that can't be answered for a few months. Early returns are cautiously positive - he tries hard, he's a great athlete, and the arm strength concerns are absurd. Nothing we didn't already know.
Lance said he was at the practice watching the QBs. Besides, the ball sailing issue he had in games and at his pro day. And we don't know that the arm strength concerns are absurd. We know he doesn't have a big arm, and we will find out if that's a problem.
