Even if he does regress by age 21 to 148 or so, is there any reason to think he won't be better than Gurriel in a few years?
J.D. Davis just launched a grand slam in Corpus. It's his 15th homer of the season and puts Corpus up 8-5 on Frisco in the 4th.
Quite the ascent for a guy who started his career super late. Hasn't had the astronomically high groundout rate he had last year, but 1.7 is still a solid figure. Still missing bats.
Can we just be done w/ this guy yet? BTW, thanks for this great thread @tellitlikeitis. @Snake Diggit, you too... really appreciate all of the information you guys share!
The Astros released the following players: RHP Jared Mortensen was acquired in the minor league phase of the Rule 5 draft from the Rays this past offseason. He only made 3 appearances with Fresno, posting a 13.50 ERA in 3 appearances. Mortensen has since signed with the Texas AirHogs of the independent American Association. C Oliver Toribio signed in December 2012 for $30,000. He posted a .429 OBP in 164 plate appearances for the DSL Blue team in 2014 but was never a real threat with the bat. He went 0-10 in 8 games in the GCL last season. 2B Nicolas Miranda signed in 2015 out of Panama. He performed decently in the DSL (.250/.369/.328 in 2016) but couldn't get out. OF Norberto Castellanos, a Cuban, signed last June for a $75,000 bonus. He slashed .172/.372/.224 with a homer and 7 RBI in 25 games with the DSL Orange team.
Jake Rogers is 2-4 with a solo homer and 3 runs scored. He's now got 10 homers between both A clubs this season.
