not sure if hes defense is elite but what amazes me he now has a very solid offensive game..hes not liability on offense anymore and even if harden is to miss a couple of games i think rockets wouldn't miss a beat with bev running the offense
His defense IS elite though! There are not many point guards that are notable defenders, most defensive guards are SG's. Wall Bev Conley George Hill Chris Paul Of this group, Bev has the 2nd best FG Diff behind Wall, and 2nd best Def RPM behind CP3. Honestly Chris Paul's defense has been overrated for awhile now and his advanced stats are very comparable to, if not worse than, Bev's. DRPM seems to skew unnecessarily high towards steals. Put down the crack pipe son. I love Bev as much as anyone, but damn... this statement completely shattered suspension of disbelief.
I think Pat Bev is an immense player and vastly under-rated with so many intangibles but there is no way he could replicate what Harden does on the floor. Not only in terms of scoring and assisting but in the opposiiton having a game plan for Harden. Often double teaming him which opens up spaces for the other shooters giving them good looks. Bev will not command a double team...
Beverley's offense has gotten better. Bev last offseason said he was coming back to show he can contribute. And saw glimpses of it in the preseason, he was spry and fit looking to BE a D'Antoni system guard. Was upset when he got injured, that it might have hurt his momentum. But its REMAINED past that Bev has decent shot selection, he really doesnt throw up "Wtf" junk . He takes decent care of ball as a handler. He doesnt turn the ball over much. He'll make the sure passes that are there. As Tasmanian devil wild as he is in D, he's more Shane Battier selective on offense. But Bev will be more aggressive to make plays with or without the ball. Bev wont explode for 38 points, wont rack up 15+ assists. Really his offensive skills are of a decent backup point guard. But add in all of his intangibles, his above average rebounding, his improved reliable 3 point shooting, he's become an actual "3 & D" glue player. Thats even before his feisty demeanor, locker room presense, and contagious hustle. Its unconventional, but it adds up in valuable productivity on the court.
He's got intangibles out the ass. I remember when we first acquired him. Some poster who knew him as a euro ball player said he was just a hustle guy and nothing more. Said he was a borderline dirty player that hustled on defense. Well, look at Bev today. The guy has come a long way on offense. He knocks down the three, he has that little floater, and I saw him run a beautiful pick and roll the other night. Oh, and he always has everyone back. This guy is a great teammate to everyone. I really do want to see him retire a Rocket. It just wouldn't seem right for him to play with another team.
Bev has great heart, great defense, great hustle, and a pretty good jumper. But his court vision is maybe a tenth of Harden's and that could be generous. Love the guy for everything else he does though.
I don't know what Bev did in the offseason, but he is looking great running the point in addition to his terrific pesky d. I thought players couldn't improve after a certain age, but this guy is the real deal. I can see why Morey did not do that trade with Chicago.
and those hook shots... the're beautiful and reliable...you gotta appreciate player who can shoot hook shots well
