    Not to mention...KJ McDaniels?

I guess we might deal those guys.

Bazemore was one of my top free agent targets but I got scared off by the numbers I was hearing. Looks like the rockets aren't worried about overpaying. He's a high upside signing; Codman on point with his "birds" comment.

Ariza's contract just became super valuable.

Would be a solid move, but at $20 million per?

    My goodness...

contracts are all about projected future performance. Ariza is a gotdamn bargain, but he certainly won't maintain those numbers

And Beverley's. Hell, even Brewer's deal is valued.

Thank you. Posts of the thread. He's nothing special. Players like him are easy to find.

exactly, bazemores are the easiest people to find. he's like the beverley of small fowards, and beverley is making $6M. or the ariza of small fowards (i.e. ariza) and ariza makes like $8M.

al horford has a skill set at his size that is difficult to replicate. you have to pay for that. daryl morey has seemingly found a bunch of bazemore-level players from mid-level or lower signings or trades where he gives up almost nothing. spending $20M wastes money on the place it is least needed. people who can create their own shot or shots for others are a bigger deal. or guys who spread the floor at a level above their position (i.e. horford) are a big deal. guys who can absolutely lock people down are a big deal. bazemore has shown nothing to indicate that he is a big deal.

and i like bazemore, just not for anything more than $10-12M, and that's not getting him.

But Bazemore gets you 5 years younger and probably gets you a trade involving Ariza that you couldn't get otherwise. Ariza's value in trades just skyrocketed at midnight. Stop looking at this move in a vacuum. I'm hoping it works out the way Morey intends, but if it doesn't, I admire the effort. Sitting on Ariza for another year on a team that just went 41-41 because he's "40% cheaper" make zero sense.

I like Bazemore but man I hope this is Horford bait. We could literally get Lance for half the price and similar production.

Ariza can't drive to the basket or create off the dribble like Bazemore.

true, it's about the future. but ariza isn't so old that he should just fall off a cliff. maybe a slight decline. and bazemore isn't so young that he's got all of his upside left. maybe a slight increase in his skills. but it just can't bridge the gap of $12M between the two contracts.

that's why i never understood people being mad about beverley's and ariza's contracts, and even i was underestimating how valuable they would be. they were value contracts at the time, now it's like they are playing for free.
