[Feigen] Rockets seriously considering Silas with Hollins as top Assistant

Stephen Silas, one of the top candidates to become the Rockets' head coach, will interview with the Golden State Warriors on Monday to become their lead assistant. That does not indicate his chances with the Rockets have weakened.

The Rockets were in contact with Silas' representatives throughout the weekend, since Silas' interview with Warriors coach Steve Kerr was moved up from Wednesday to Monday, to assure that they were still considering him for their position and to make sure they will have time to complete their process, a person with knowledge of the talks said.

According to the individual familiar with talks to set up Monday's interview, speaking on the condition of anonymity because of the private nature of the negotiations, the Warriors have assured Silas' representatives they will allow at least several days for Silas to make a decision if they make a job offer.

Another individual with knowledge of the Rockets' thinking also said that Silas, with former Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins as his lead assistant, remains under consideration.

Silas spent five years with the Warriors (2006-10) and coached the Golden State summer league team. The Portland Trail Blazers also have shown interest in adding Silas to their staff. Yahoo Sports first reported the meeting with the Warriors.

The Rockets have interviews scheduled on Monday with Magic assistant Adrian Griffin and Spurs assistant James Borrego. Both interviews are for the head coaching position, rather than a place on a staff led by Silas or Mike D'Antoni, but the Rockets have found a top assistant in previous head coaching interviews.

Griffin, like Silas, is expected to also be in line for several lead assistant positions and was a finalist for the head coaching job in Orlando that went to Frank Vogel. The Magic have indicated they would not stand in Griffin's way if he preferred even a lateral move, but he is a candidate to remain with them.

Hollins as an assistant is the real prize in this deal. But if things continue to plod along (which it probably will because it's the Rocketsrolleyesthen he too will be off the table.
I have a master plan though. Just prepare to be disappointed.
