He's a decent backup PG in the right system. Charlotte seems a good place for him, so I hope he stays.
Do you know both guys have literally identical career shooting percentages, except Lin gets to the line more and has a higher TS%? Sometimes people have to learn to at least check ESPN Stats page before they talk out of their ass. Or at least they can't assume the likes of JJ Barea or Corey Brewer (when he wasn't on the Rockets) shoots the same way against the rest of the NBA as they do against Harden/Beverley.
i think only lottery teams would want him as their starting guard. if he wants to win, Charlotte is actually a good place. and 28 is not really young for a below average guard as he can't afford any decline of his game. i think he's probably got another 3-4 years in the NBA.
That's actually pretty generous, 3-4 years. Who would have thought that Lin would survive past his second year in the league, let alone projecting him to still be playing until 31-32? That's a full career, and more than most players can dream of. It's truly a testament of his greatness. Probably will be in the HOF conversation after he's done.
Because Barea can't drive the paint the way that Lin can, nor is Barea as good a playmaker as Lin. Also...Lin does not play like "a little guy"...he drives the paint with strength to take contact and still score at the rim. "little guys" tend to be better outside shooters. At 6'3" and 200lbs, Lin's on the bigger size for PGs.
Beside all the LOFs wishes, Lin as a competitor and in his prime should consider if there are any teams that would want him to be their starting PG. If there is a borderline lottery team that will run the P&R with the PG will be a good fit for lin. What are some teams that will be a good fit for Lin's skill set as a PG that he can be a starter next season?
There is truth to this statement. Byron was the worst laker coach!! Lin and Ed Davis P&R was deadly the few times they were allowed to play together.
I think the only places where Lin will consider will be teams where he has a good history/relationship with the coach/organization. Right now, that means Philly and NJ
They may have the same career shooting percentages, but I'd be willing to bet that Barea gets more of his shots from outside/midrange and Lin gets his more at the rim. No question that Barea is one of the better pure shooters in the league and Lin is not...but as you say, that doesn't mean that Lin isn't as efficient (if not more) than Barea.
but barea stepped up big during their championship run. Lin had a decent playoff but struggled in the pivotal game 6.
Barea has been to the playoffs 7 times with Dallas. He only played more than 5 minutes in 5 of those series. In the year they won the finals, he averaged 8.9pts/game shooting .419 (.312 from 3pt range). In 21 playoff games that year, Barea scored more than 10 points in only 7 games. In 4 of the other playoff appearances, the Mavs were eliminated in the 1st round. So not sure what you mean by him "stepping up big".
I like to see lin get a chance to run the first team without having another ball dominant teammate like Melo, Harden, and Kobe on the same team. Lin is not elite level but have enough skills in be a good PG for a playoff level team.
