That's all fine. But when--repeatedly--it's clear that the "journalist" has done *no* research and is spewing the same crap that I--with no degree in journalism and no access to any of these guys--can spew at a water cooler, that's when I cry foul. And that's what the Chronicle has been for years now. Water-cooler drivel. It's been nearly two decades or more since we enjoyed actual journalism in our local paper's sports section.

I disagree with the no research part. He had good nuggets of information imbedded in the crap a lot of times. It is just if you wanted to sift through the crap to find it. Frankly, I stopped reading the Chronicle because I didn't think it was worth it. Astros.com reporting has more information and typically provides a less biased approach even though they should be the more biased source.

JdJO covered the Astros during the early 00s heyday; in fact (through a mutual media friend), I used his seats for game 4 of the World Series. So, no - I think his ax was the minority hiring, right? Or whatever it was that ticked Lopez off - was it Univision-related? I honestly can't remember.

My favorite Drelich exchange was him taking a pot shot at the Astros in a tweet about the indictment of the Cardinals' official; a, "yeah, he did something wrong - but, let's not forget: it was really the Astros' fault" dig. I called him on it and he first - and literally - told me not to be dumb. When I asked why the Astros should've anticipated being hacked - something that had never happened in the history of professional sports, he said that wasn't true and pointed me to his article, which literally began, "In an unprecedented case..."

Angel Verdejo(Chron HS) and Jake Kaplan(Philadelphia Inquirer) are the two new beat writers.

Well only thing I see on Verdejo on twitter is some guy that loved Drellich congratulating him. Probably not the greatest of endorsements.

Yes...a couple of Hispanic Telemundo TV execs claimed McLane made derogatory comments about Hispanics and baseball. Essentially saying that McLane said the Astros didn't market to Hispanics because they did not understand the game and a couple of other things.

McLane denied the accusations. Witnesses said they didn't hear McLane say those things and Telemundo eventually issued a public apology.

I think Angel Verdejo was the Chron's only full-time high school sports guy.

And Lopez ran with all of it, penning a gigantic character assassination based on those alleged comments.

Ha! Not for quite a while, except for links provided here on CF. I don't think I've witnessed excellent journalism coming from the Sports section of that rag in this century.
